Groundwork is a small farm with a small crew, which means everyone here wears a lot of hats.
​From seeding and harvesting to washing vegetables, running the farm stand and keeping everything moving behind the scenes, our farm is built by the people who show up and do the work every day.

Meet The Farmers

Mayda Pozantides
Co-Founder & Co-Owner

Mayda co-founded Groundwork in 2015 and has spent more than a decade growing food in Buffalo. Over the years, her role at the farm has included just about everything: crop planning, seeding, harvesting, running the farm stand, managing the CSA, building partnerships, writing grants and figuring out how to keep a small urban farm moving forward.
Today, Mayda splits her time between Groundwork and Fare Share WNY, the nonprofit organization that grew out of the farm's community food access work. Her work focuses on strengthening connections between local farms, good food and the communities they serve.

Anders Gunnersen
Co-Founder & Co-Owner

Anders co-founded Groundwork with Mayda in 2015 and has helped build the farm from its earliest days.
With a background in environmental science and years of experience with the USDA, Anders brings a deep knowledge of plants, ecology and the natural systems that shape the farm. He has had a hand in everything from building infrastructure and maintaining equipment to crop production, finances and the endless problem-solving that comes with running a farm.
Like many owners of small farms, Anders has also worked off-farm throughout Groundwork's history while continuing to help keep the farm growing behind the scenes.

Madison Rios
Farm Manager

Madison has been with us since 2022 and  keeps the day-to-day work of the farm moving. Before joining our team, she'd been able to pursue her passion of agriculture in many places around the country for lots of different farms. 
As Farm Manager, she leads field production and our farm crew, manages harvests and wholesale accounts, and plays a major role in deciding what gets planted, harvested and brought to the stand each week.
If you've visited the farm stand, followed along with Groundwork on social media, or eaten our produce at a local restaurant, you've probably encountered some part of Maddie's work.

Our Farm Crew

Groundwork wouldn't happen without our seasonal farm crew, workshares, interns and volunteers.

Farming is intensely collaborative work. Every season, many hands help seed, transplant, weed, harvest, wash, pack and sell the food grown here.
