Groundwork has always been rooted in the neighborhood where we farm. Over the years, our work has grown beyond our fields to include food access, community events, education, partnerships and new spaces for our neighbors to grow food of their own.

Leslie Street Community Garden
Right across the street from Groundwork, something new is growing.
The Leslie Street Community Garden is transforming five formerly vacant city lots into a neighborhood space for growing, learning and gathering. Developed with input from neighborhood residents, the garden is being designed as a place where community members can grow food, learn new skills, spend time outdoors and help shape what the space becomes.
The will project include community growing spaces, educational programming, perennial and herbal plantings, gathering areas and opportunities to learn about growing, harvesting, cooking and preserving food. Most importantly, this is a community garden, not an extension of Groundwork's production fields.
The goal is to create a space that neighbors have a meaningful role in shaping, using and caring for.

Some of the community food access work that began at Groundwork eventually became something bigger. Fare Share WNY is an independent nonprofit organization working to increase access to fresh, locally grown food while strengthening the farms and food producers that make our regional food system possible. Groundwork works closely with Fare Share WNY on projects that connect local food, farmers and community. |
Solidarity Shares
One of the longest-running connections between Groundwork and Fare Share WNY is the Solidarity Share.
The program provides subsidized CSA shares to local households experiencing food insecurity, helping make fresh, locally grown food more accessible while ensuring participating farmers are paid for what they grow.
What began at Groundwork has grown into a collaborative effort involving multiple local farms and community partners.

Plant Sale + Giveaway Event

Every spring, the farm fills up with plants and people.
Our annual Plant Sale + Giveaway brings together local farms, gardeners, community organizations and hundreds of neighbors for a day dedicated to growing food at home. Alongside plants available for purchase, Fare Share WNY distributes thousands of free vegetable seedlings to community members, with a focus on making gardening more accessible to everyone. It's one of our favorite days of the year! |
