Overview:
We are seeking to add two new team members to our farm crew for the 2025 season. This will be a seasonal, full-time position, starting in April-October. Hours are typically 9am to 5pm, Monday-Friday. Schedules may change as necessary based on weather, season, daylight hours, market schedule, etc.
Organization Description:
Groundwork Market Garden is a minority & woman owned urban farm business in Buffalo, NY since 2015. The farm produces certified USDA Organic vegetables & herbs, as well as flowers, mushrooms, honey and nursery plants. Our products are sold through a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, an on-site farmstand, and to area restaurants and institutions. We are happy to provide our employees with a rewarding and respectful environment. Our employees will enjoy the lifestyle that farming affords- working outside in conjunction with the seasons, access to fresh organic food, connection with the soil, plants and the community who enjoy them.
Essential Functions:
The farm crew member must be capable of participating fully in all farm tasks including, but not limited to:
- General farm chores: turning over beds, cultivation, seeding, planting, weeding, watering
- Field/bed preparation: digging, carrying heavy loads
- Harvesting & processing: washing/packing
- Planting & caring for greenhouse crops
- Tending to the weekly farmstand/CSA pickup
Critical Skills/Qualifications:
- Experience in organic vegetable farming is preferred, not required
- Ability to do daily physical work under varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift/carry items up to 50 lbs
- Ability to competently use Google workplace (sheets, documents, calendar)
- Ability to follow directions, both orally and written
- Ability to ask questions when help is needed
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a larger team
- Attention to detail and pride in a job well done
- Good communication skills
