YOUR FARMERS
MAYDA POZANTIDESMayda's passion for farming began when she asked herself how she might create positive change within her community. She quickly realized that food was something that could break down the barriers of social constructs and improve upon the lives of people from all walks of life. Mayda loves to transform a space and help things grow, and she knows that it all begins with healthy soils. She believes healthy soils produce healthy plants which in turn provide fuel for people to create healthy communities. Before farming, she worked as a teacher and continues to educate through the garden.

ANDERS GUNNERSENAnders has always had a knack for building and growing. He started in his backyard building chicken coops and raised beds and worked as a Technician with the USDA for 8 years. Not only is he great on all our construction projects, but he also has a way of seeing a problem and creating simple solutions to solve it. He is the one that's always making sure that things are running smoothly, whether that be finding a better way of completing a task or inventing and building a new tool to get it done. With a talent for all things business and finance, Anders rounds out the Groundwork team.

MADISON RIOSMadison has been pretty obsessed with farming ever since she started working on her alma mater’s student farm at Penn State University in 2018. To her, there’s truly nothing more satisfying than working outside all day, every day, tending the Earth, and connecting people with their local environment via fresh food. She’s been able to pursue her passion of agriculture in many places around the country for lots of different farms. Madison moved to Buffalo in 2022 and considers herself extremely lucky to be able to wholeheartedly focus on growing her career as a farmer.

Gone But Not Forgotten!
(not gone, gone... but, moved on to other pastures... as in, no longer working at our farm)
Special shout out to the farmers who have helped us grow:

Our Methods
Everything we grow on our two acre farm is USDA Certified Organic. In short, that means we use no harmful pesticides, herbicides, chemical fertilizers, or GMO seeds in our production. To dive deeper into USDA organic certification and what that means, you can start here. We pride ourselves on the quality of our product and we achieve this through applying regenerative agricultural practices. We plant and weed all our crops by hand which means we interact with our plants regularly. We rotate our crops and rely on observation and planning to get ahead of pest and disease issues. It is essential to us that we produce the most nutritious fruits and veggies, and we believe that starts with our soil. We use a no-till system and are constantly amending and feeding our soils to provide optimal growing environments for our crops.
What We Produce
We grow over 50 different varieties of vegetables, and some small fruit, following the seasons. Early spring lettuces, greens, and sweet peas give way to summer's heat-loving tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and eggplant. In the fall, we enjoy root veggies, hearty greens, and cabbages. We love to mix up the classics that everyone knows and loves with an exciting variety of crops that might not be as familiar. As they say, variety is the spice of life- and on our farm, we like to spice it up! Though not a complete list and things can change during planning, here's an taste of what you'll see from our farm this season:
